save water, save money

On September 21, 2009, a limited number of rebates became available through the SoCal Water$mart program for Southern California residential water customers. Residential water customers are those living in houses or apartments, town homes, condominiums or mobile home complexes with four or less dwellings that are NOT represented by a homeowners association or property management company. Changes have been made to the program in order to promote installation of water-saving devices while working within a reduced budget.

As of September 18th, 2009 at 5:00 pm, rebate reservations are no longer required. Click on the link to the right to Get Your Rebate.

In 2008/09, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and its member public agencies issued a record number of rebates, following the launch of this program in July 2008. This resulted in nearly three billion gallons of water that will be saved each year.  This savings was achieved in a year when parts of the region faced mandatory conservation for the first time since 1991 due to severe water supply problems in the state of California.

There have been important changes to the terms and conditions of this program, so please read the updated Rebate Information section closely. Check this website regularly for program updates.

Key changes as of September 21, 2009, include:

  • Funding is limited, and submitting a rebate application does not guarantee you will receive a rebate. Rebates will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted.
  • Rebate applications are available online and may also be available at retail stores.
  • Rebate reservations are not required.
  • Only original receipts will be accepted as proof of purchase.
  • Rebate applications and proof of purchase must be postmarked no later than 45 days after purchase.
  • Some devices or products may no longer be eligible for rebate, and rebate amounts are subject to change.
  • Rebate checks will be issued only to the residential water customer directly.
  • Purchases made prior to September 21, 2009 are ineligible for MWD region-wide rebates.

Rebate amounts may vary depending on local water agency participation.
